One of our main initiatives in support of Mature Workers is the delivery of the Passport To Employment Program
- A program designed to keep people 55 - 64 in the workforce or bring them back into employment.
- A process that provides opportunities for mature workers to take a number of “employment journeys”.
- A short course that helps with job skills, knowledge and confidence.
- An opportunity to seek employment.
- An opportunity to secure a job.
- A federally funded job search program.
How Passport To Employment operates:
- Mature wokers receive two weeks of job search skills training that includes: computer, resume writing, interviewing, job portfolio, job re-entry self awareness
- From the outset, Passport staff work with participants to determine a job placement. Businesses wiht a possible job opportunity are contacted and an agreement reached to participate in the Passport program
- The business interviews one or more participants. If the business believes a participant could become an employee of the company, Passport works with the business to create a set of job readiness skills that are specific to the business. These skills are taught on site and are called “Bridging Skills“.
- In addition to developing their Bridging Skills, participants learn about the company's culture, meet staff, discover the layout of the facilities, become aware of products and have opportunities for “hands on“ experiences.
- If the bridging experience is positive for both parties, the mature worker is employed following the usual hiring procedures of the business
The Passport To Employment Program is now underway across the province. If you have been a participant, would like to participate or just have thoughts on anything related to the Mature Worker or Passport To Employment Program please let us know your thoughts through the submission form below.
